One last point
Glad to have experienced it,
but damn glad to be home!!!

It's one of these things that happen in life..........
Out for a lovely birthday meal and a conversation about our then current business and how we are becoming bored......a flippant comment from myself to Alasdair
"Let's just sell up and buy a bar in Mallorca!"
Definitely NOT said with any thought or meaning, but two days later we were on a plane flying to Palma de Mallorca for three appointments to view some properties.
Wow! No time to think, let alone pack!
Four days later we were the proud owners of a beautiful restaurant/bar with a three bedroom apartment above and a view to die for,
which would become...............

S'Arenal is a more traditional town situation on the South coast, just east of Palma de Mallorca.
It comes under the district of Lluchmajor and lies at the east end of the Playa de Palma.
The original village has sprawled into a small town of tourist shops and hotels, but still retains a lot of the Mallorican charm in the small narrow streets.
We were situated within meters of one of the best beaches in Mallorca.
Miles of stunning white sand, which was cleaned every night ready for the next days influx of sun-seekers.

Carolyne at Club Nautica, S'Arenal
We mainly catered for German tourists, which allowed Carolyne & Dominic to practice their German!
Alasdair & Tania were happy to deal with the locals which gave them the opportunity to speak Espanol, Catalan & the local language of Mallorcian (which is not a written language)
Living in Mallorca was an experience and both Tania and Dominic gained an immense amount from it.
Dominic learned precious life skills and a definite talent for not only pulling a pint but had his banter ready for pulling any pretty young tourist that came his way, by using his Spanish chat up lines.
Tania gained a husband in Sean, who at the time
owned a Night Club not far from
The Strathallan Arms.
However, even though Alasdair had a new lease of energy and absolutely loved the lifestyle, the strong pull from home was too much for Carolyne so the whole family including Sean returned to Scotland.

An afternoon in the sun and the hookah pipe!!
The Strathallan Arms was not only a bar, but a well respected Restaurant with Carolyne being the resident Chef.
The menu consisted of many recipes Carolyne grew up with when still living in London. Multi cultural and very tasty.
Four of the house specialities
The Burmese Curry, the recipe is a family secret and was brought back by Carolyne's Father from Burma after World War II.
The Jamaican Jerk Chicken that Carolyne learned from her Jamaican Uncle George.
The Roast Suckling Pig, a Mallorcian national dish.
A whole piglet spit roasted with herbs and spices, served on a large Silver platter.
Finally the Joey Sandwich, inspired by the
TV programme Friends.
It encompassed 5 different sliced meats, a variety of salads,
home made egg mayonnaise and much much more.
It was not for the faint hearted.
Another busy evening which will go on until 4am!

MASTER OF THE HOUSE!!!

Entertainment on the Terrace
Not to be outdone by Carolyne's skills as Chef, Alasdair stepped up and
proved that he was most definitely
The Master of the House.
A perfect host, who not only chatted with the clients but entertained them with his dulcet tones by offering Karaoke evenings three to four times a week.
Quite a lot of our friends came over to
visit but none more welcome
than Dave and Katie.
Friends for nearly 10 years, we met whilst visiting Egypt on a Nile Cruise and have made a point of meeting up each year, in whatever country we are in!!.
Which is quite a task as they live near London and spend almost 6 months in America on business and we run the
kennels again, but we manage somehow.
Champion of the Wheelie Bin Finals!!!
Carolyne's Mum and Dad spent Christmas with us one year. Which was an absolute joy, having missed them so much.
Carolyne's Dad had never flown in his then 93 years and had to get a passport issued to make the trip.
When asked if he liked the
country and would he like to move here, his answer will delight for years to come.
" Oh aye! It's braw!......Where are we?"
Both enjoyed their visit very much and got to meet many interesting people who had become 'residents' of
THE STRATHALLAN ARMS
Carolyne's Mum & Dad enjoying a night out in Palma
Mallorca is known for being deeply religious and having a fiesta for absolutely anything and everything.
Not to be outdone, The Strathallan Arms organized a traditional Hogmany
party for New Year.
There was dancing, singing and a lot of volume, with Alasdair turning the amazing sound system up to almost galactic levels.
Even some of the locals came and had a go at a Gay Gordons....which did bring a
rye smile from a few!!!
Carolyne & Dominic attempting a Strip the Willow
'Fiesta of the Dead'
This is a fantastic parade where each Mallorcian district display giants and march around the Town with a variety of Bands playing National music.
When they passed right outside the bar, Alasdair could not resist getting up nice and close with
one of the Kings!!
